How to Get XP in Rise of Nations
XP formula, superpower unlocks, farming modifiers, conquest, and titles.
Player experience (XP / EXP) is the long-term progression layer in Rise of Nations. It unlocks the three starting superpowers and the prestige account titles Warlord, Conqueror, and Grandmaster. This guide explains how XP works, the India / United States / China thresholds, why small high-modifier nations farm faster than superpowers, how conquest drives gains, and how titles fit beside formable rewards. Pair farming sessions with solid openings from Getting Started and income from the Economy Guide. More guides sit on the Guides Hub.
What XP is for
XP is tracked on your account across public matches. It does not replace in-match money, political power, or military power. Instead it gates:
- Playing India, the United States, and China from the lobby
- Account titles Warlord, Conqueror, and Grandmaster
There are still no promo codes that grant XP or unlocks — ignore third-party “code” lists. The Codes page exists to say so clearly. Skill still comes from factories, doctrines, and formables; XP only widens which nations you may select.
Superpower unlock thresholds
| Nation | XP required | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| India | 144,338 | Tier VII start, rank 3 at game start |
| United States | 176,777 | Tier VII start, rank 1 at game start |
| China | 250,000 | Tier VII start, rank 2; highest XP gate |
These three are the base superpowers on Hyperant’s map: huge populations, economies, and manpower. They are excellent for learning late-game power fantasy after you unlock them — and terrible for farming more XP because of their modifier.
Superpowers give 0.11x XP
Nation tiers (community labels, not always shown as official Roman numerals in-game) scale the XP gain modifier roughly like this:
| Tier idea | Approx. XP modifier |
|---|---|
| Weakest / hardest starts | up to about 2.5x |
| Mid minors | around 1.25x–1.5x |
| Average | about 1x |
| Strong regionals | about 0.75x |
| Great powers | about 0.33x |
| Superpowers (India, USA, China) | 0.11x |
Playing China after unlocking it feels strong and awards almost no account XP. If your goal is Grandmaster, spend farming matches on high-modifier minors, then switch to superpowers for fun or competitive rulesets.
XP formula in plain language
Exact live formulas can shift with patches, but the practical model is:
XP gained ≈ (performance and conquest contribution) × (nation XP modifier) × (server / mode factors)
What raises the performance side:
- Conquering nations and cities — the primary farm lever
- Growing economy and surviving longer with rising rank
- Winning wars rather than idling in a corner
- Research and development that enable more conquest
What lowers effective XP:
- Choosing 0.11x superpowers
- Dying early with little expansion
- AFK or near-AFK play
- Picking already-strong nations with middling modifiers when a 1.5x–2.5x option was free
Always glance at the XP modifier on a nation before you click play if the session is a farm.
Farm high XP modifier small nations
The efficient pattern:
- Lobby-select a small or mid nation with a high XP modifier (Tier I–III style rates).
- Confirm nearby AI targets exist and few veteran players share your region.
- Rush factories (Economy) with Ignore Safety Regulations and Improve Infrastructure.
- Justify and annex neighbors using sound micro (Military).
- Form an early formable if available for stability (Formables).
- Keep expanding until the server ends or you cannot grow further without suicide wars.
South American, African, and some Asian minors often combine decent modifiers with AI-dense neighborhoods. Avoid opening farm sessions in hyper-contested Europe unless you specifically want hard fights over XP rate.
Balance matters: a 2.5x nation that cannot raise manpower or money will stall. Prefer high modifier plus a workable resource or population base. Beginner Nations helps pick teachable starts; filter those picks by XP modifier when farming.
Conquest is the engine
Passive sitting rarely competes with conquest XP. Each annexed state adds contribution; snowballing five AI neighbors beats turtling one rich city. Use lure-and-entrench tactics so you do not burn manpower before the third war. Return to peace when you need a formable decision, then continue the snowball.
Technology that speeds wars — tank or infantry lines appropriate to biome — indirectly raises XP by raising conquest count per hour. Political and economic tech that funds more factories does the same. Do not research vanity nodes during a dedicated farm.
Titles: Warlord, Conqueror, Grandmaster
| Title | XP required |
|---|---|
| Warlord | 250,000 |
| Conqueror | 1,000,000 |
| Grandmaster | 10,000,000 |
Warlord aligns with the China unlock milestone numerically but is a separate title track. Conqueror and Grandmaster are long hauls that reward consistent high-modifier farming rather than occasional superpower stomps. Formable titles (Imperator, Vozhd, Kaiser, and many others) unlock by forming empires and are independent of these XP titles — chase both if you are a collector.
Session planning tips
- Farm nights: high modifier minor → conquest → early formable → expand until diminishing returns.
- Practice nights: play unlocked regional powers or, once unlocked, India / USA / China to learn superpower APMs knowing XP will be poor.
- Mixed nights: one farm match, one fun match.
- Track progress toward 144,338 / 176,777 / 250,000 so you know when lobby options change.
- Read Updates if Hyperant retunes modifiers or XP; verify numbers in-lobby when unsure.
Common XP mistakes
- Grinding China/USA/India for account XP after unlock
- Picking a high modifier nation with zero expansion paths
- Skipping factories and losing early, wasting the modifier
- Chasing British Empire on a farm account before income exists
- Believing promo codes or script menus can legally add XP — they cannot; see Scripts for policy context and Codes for the no-codes rule
Linking XP to the rest of the wiki
Controls speed (Controls) raises conquest per hour. Economy and military guides raise win rate. Formables add mid-match power spikes that enable more annexations. Tier lists highlight which starts are strong; always multiply strength by XP modifier when the goal is account progress.
Community discussion continues on Discord at discord.gg/riseofnations. Play the official Rise of Nations experience on Roblox by Hyperant (released November 14, 2018) — search the title in Roblox rather than trusting random mirrored links.
Farm smart: high modifiers, real conquest, no superpower XP tax, and the India / USA / China gates — plus Warlord through Grandmaster — will fall on schedule.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers players search for every session.
How much XP do I need for India, the United States, and China?
India requires 144,338 XP, the United States 176,777 XP, and China 250,000 XP.
Why do superpowers give such low XP?
India, the United States, and China use a 0.11x XP gain modifier. They are strong in-match but terrible for account farming.
What is the best way to farm XP?
Pick a small or mid nation with a high XP modifier, rush factories, and conquer AI neighbors for most of the match. Avoid idling and avoid 0.11x starts while farming.
What XP titles exist?
Warlord at 250,000 XP, Conqueror at 1,000,000 XP, and Grandmaster at 10,000,000 XP. Formable titles are separate unlocks.
Can codes give me XP or unlock China early?
No. Rise of Nations has no promo codes for XP or nation unlocks. Progress comes from playing matches.
Should I form nations while XP farming?
Yes when an early formable is reachable. Stability and modifiers help you conquer more, which raises XP. See Formables.
